Welcome to the third edition of The Shofar! I remain grateful to Cathy Rosenfeld, Carole Baden, Celeste Lavin, and all of the contributors for creating this newsletter and doing the ongoing work of collecting and editing the content.
Speaking of content, I hope some of you have started following CNS on Instagram. Our strategic planning consultants (Tiny Windows) said that we really need to up our social media game, and thanks to Celeste, we now have an account. Here is the link: https://www.instagram.com/congregationnetivotshalom/
And speaking of Tiny Windows, thank you very much to all of you who have been participating in interviews with them. They have reported back that people have been generous with their time, and that the information has been very helpful to them. Stay tuned for a congregation-wide survey to come.
One board initiative that I’ve been meaning to discuss more with all of you is the Committee on Committees. I know I like to joke about how many committees we have here, but the committees are of course critically important to not only keeping the congregation running but also social and vibrant. Prior boards have done work on this front, but we thought that we would formalize the efforts into, yes, another committee. Our thinking was that we wanted to have a team dedicated to the work of making sure our various committees are getting what they need. In addition, that committee is thinking about whether we need to have more formal structures in place for leadership pipelines, budget processes, and the like. So far, the group has done a lot of work in terms of speaking with the committees and starting to map out the landscape of our committee/group structure. If you’re on a committee, you should have heard from them, but if not, let me know. And also let me know if you have any other ideas for the Committee on Committees.
The Board is taking the month of July off in terms of meetings (perhaps you’ll see some vacation photos on Instagram . . .), but I’m always available if you need anything. We’ll be back in August working on High Holidays preparation, strategic planning, committee work, etc. Have a wonderful summer!
