Capital Campaign Hineni: Answering the Call for Netivot’s Future!

Help Netivot Shalom Own Our Sanctuary

We’re a vibrant, participatory community of 350+ families serving the wider Berkeley Jewish community.  Our founders saw the potential of this site (a former Jay Vee Liquors!) and, through extraordinary volunteer effort and generosity, built the sanctuary we cherish today. That same spirit of vision and commitment can finish the work they started: to own the building outright so future generations inherit a stable, debt-free spiritual home.

After twenty years in this beloved building, we have a clear, achievable plan to retire our mortgage and bring lasting financial security to our home — and we need your help.

Campaign goal: $1,500,000 in pledges over the next year — a plan that, when pledges are paid over four years, will allow us to pay off the mortgage completely.

Why this matters

  • We currently pay $10,000/mo in mortgage service — nearly 10% of the synagogue’s annual budget.
  • Without action, a balloon payment of over $1.2 million is due at the end of our loan.
  • Paying down the mortgage protects programs, strengthens our preschool, and preserves our ability to serve the community.

Campaign Progress & Goal

This spring we launched a quiet phase and have momentum:

  • $800,000 in donations and pledges secured during the quiet phase — more than 50% of the mortgage principal.

  • $200,000 in accelerated principal payments have already reduced our balance and cut mortgage interest by $12,000 this fiscal year.
